J.J. Watt asks for his release from the Houston Texans

First it was Deshaun Watson asking for his release. Then team President Jamey Rootes resigned after 20 years on the job. And now J.J. Watt makes it official. He has played his last down for the Houston Texans.

"I have sat down with the McNair family and I have asked them for my release and we have mutually agreed to part ways at this time," Watt said in a video posted to Twitter.

As for now there is no indication as to where Watt may be headed. There had been rumors of a trade last season, with the Green Bay Packers being mentioned as a possibility. Watt went to college at the University of Wisconsin and is from the Milwaukee area.

Watt was drafted by the Texans in 2011 with the No. 11 pick and became the face of the franchise, winning three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards from 2012-15. Watt is one of three players to win that award three times.
